Homeless animals and respect

There are a lot of homeless animals. At least in Russia. Some people like them, some hate and others just just don't notice. Personally I notice them and I respect any animal. Moreover if I see mosquito I don't kill him because it could be a male and as you know male mosquitoes don't suck our blood, they prefer pollen. Actually even if I know that it's not male I don't kill her anyway because he could just sit on the wall and think. Only when mosquito try to suck my blood I try to kill him and it's normal, it's nature: I tries to safe myself, he tries to earn some food. And here my respect appears: animal take what it needs, not what he wants.
Cats and dogs which live on the streets are also animals. They try to defend themselves and try to find some food.
In modern city animal could find food in a rubbish heap or get it from kind people. And here is problem. I communicated with such people several times. One of that people was my neighbour. Everyday he fed cats. He fed them near the entrance of our building where we lived. Cats remembered this kind man and came everyday in similar time. When the neighbour was late cats waited him. When the neighbour was late for day or two cats waited him. Angry residents tried to send away cats. When the neighbour returned residents asked don't feed cats, but as usual he said: "oh... I'm so lone, I have no family, I have no friends". And residents calmed down for short period.
He was typical homeless animal feeder. Unfortunately he tried to find family and friends in poor animals. Of course he loved them and cared about them. But sometimes he leaved his home for 2 weeks or more basically for vacation and he didn't feed cats for two weeks. And here my respect for such people disappears: such people take what they wants, not what they need forgetting about anything except themselves. Feed an animal if you intends to do it all your rest life. Temporary help kills.
