Tips

I hate any social rituals. For example, I never understand polite ritual when unknown man asks me "How are you?". And he doesn't want to know about me anything (structure of a sentence). He just was (extra word) learned polite ritual. Or I hate to make handshaking among (better - with) men. Many years ago I worked in company which consisted of almost men only. There was one big room where we sat. And every morning we made handshakes. I made from 15 to 20 handshakes in the morning and the same amount of handshakes in the evening. It was annoying polite ritual.
There is one more social ritual. It's restaurant tips. Actually it doesn't annoy me and many years I left tips every time when I visited restaurants. Of course if waiter made something wrong I didn't leave tips at all.
But recently I visited restaurant and I've thought about tips. Did you ask yourself when and why this ritual appeared? I tried to find out something but I didn't find anything interesting. And I just asked myself: who is interested in tips? There are 3 persons who have to do with tips: waiter, restaurant visitor and restaurant owner(or man who pays salary to waiter).
And I realized that only owner of restaurant is interested in tips! Because when he hires waiter he can say "I will pay you $100 per month but if you work well, you will get huge tips, $500-$1000!". But he doesn't guarantee that waiter will get it. And poor waiter will work hard to earn $300 thinking that he can earn $1000. It makes waiter more greedy and he forget that he works with people and for people, he begin to work for himself and for money. Human relations converts to market relations and it's very sad.
